Dawn News was Pakistan first 24 - hour English news channel . Based in Karachi , the station is a subsidiary of Pakistan Herald Publications Limited ( pHPL ) , Pakistan s largest English-language media group . The test transmission of the station took place on May 25, 2007 ,and the channel went live on July 23, 2007 . On May 15, 2010 , Dawn News converted into an Urdu news channel after successful test transmission of four hours a day . The conversion is mainly due to the financial crisis and thin viewership in the country . Now press 24/7 has replaced it as the only Pakistani English news channel . Dawn News Test Transmission was launched by the former President of Pakistan , Pervez Musharraf . The full launch of the channel coincided with the outcome of the case before the Supreme Court that the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry , who was suspended by General Musharraf cleared. The channel was initially housed in Haroon House , the headquarters of pHPL , but moved to its current location in West Wharf , Karachi later. The channel has an online stream available on its website for the foreign visitor.
